Environmental Studies at York U
We already know that the answers to the world’s environmental problems aren’t going to come from one perspective. We need change leaders with deep knowledge and skills in more than one piece of the puzzle. York’s Faculty of Environmental Studies has been at the forefront of this kind of thinking since 1968.
As the first environmental studies program in Canada, we explore environmental issues from a cross-disciplinary approach, integrating social, political and cultural perspectives into every lecture, lab, field experience course and co-op opportunity, and at our new EcoCampus in Costa Rica. In addition to studying the science behind climate change, for example, you will learn how communities and environments are being dramatically transformed by the globalization of economies and culture, and the role that business, politics, law, planning and even global media can play in sustaining a healthy planet.
With your unique perspective and York degree, you will hit the ground running after graduation, in careers ranging from conservation biologist and design strategist to urban planner, ecological economist and corporate sustainability officer.Learn more ›
